When Did This Become The New Normal?
20 years ago (maybe less) if we saw a mom on the side of the kid's soccer field with a tumbler full of wine, we would be asking a mutual friend of hers if maybe they needed to be directed to the local Betty Ford Clinic. So my question is, when did it become the norm of us moms to bring alcohol to our children's sporting events?
When did it become normal for children's birthday parties to be more about the cocktails for the adults than about the actual children?
I am not actually saying this to point fingers or judge (if you know me personally- you know that's not me.) I am highlighting it because I think it's important to see the cultural shift and pressure that us moms are under to actually drink, when back in our parents and grandparents day, this would have been looked down upon.
The sober curious movement is having a real moment, but big alcohol knows it and are freaking out. So what are they doing? They are leaning in (spending mega bucks) on ensuring that moms get hooked on their product, because once you're addicted you're their customer for life.
Don't believe me? Take a stroll through your local target and just get curious about all the paraphernalia suggesting that you as a mom should deserve wine for being a mom. It's bananas.
