ARE YOU DRINKING ALCOHOL TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS ALCOHOL IS CAUSING?
I WAS!
Here's what I mean...
I drank because I was sad after I lost my mom, but alcohol is a depressant, which means it was just making me more miserable. The more depressed I got, the more I drank.
I drank to relieve stress, but the alcohol increased my adrenaline and cortisol levels meaning that even the most manageable days seemed impossible. The more I drank over time, the more challenging life became. I was drinking for stress relief but making my life more stressful in the process.
I drank because I wanted to knock myself out after the end of a long hard day. I wanted to sleep. I was exhausted. But even one glass of wine disrupts your REM sleep, so I woke up with an empty tank. I was drinking for rest, but I was making myself exhausted by drinking.
I drank so that I could have fun and let off steam because my life was hard (because I was exhausted and super stressed out all the time), so I used alcohol as my excuse to let loose. The late nights out led to crazy hangovers and made me feel much worse. I realised that having to stay home all day after a night out is NOT fun and not worth it.
I drank because I felt shame for not showing up as the wife and mother that I wanted to be. As a result, you guessed it- from all the drinking! The more I drank, the more shame I felt. The more guilt I felt, the more I drank.
Do you see how we're drinking to solve problems that the alcohol is creating in the first place?
Can I encourage you today babe? Life becomes so much more manageable without self-sabotaging yourself all the time.
