“IF I AM NOT DRINKING, HOW CAN I ESCAPE?”
I had a client ask me – “If I am not drinking, how will I be able to escape?”
I have found that this question comes in similar forms. Sometimes I hear “But how will I slow down?”
Here’s the thing about sobriety. It’s actually not about what you’re drinking or not drinking.
It’s actually about creating a life that you don’t want to escape from.
It’s about creating a life where you don’t feel like you have to numb out.
It’s about creating a life where you don’t feel like you need a substance to slow you down because you’re already calm and at peace.
Sounds a little “whooo-whoo” I know but stay with me.
If you’re drinking because you’re anxious about something (or lots of somethings) together we can uncover what is causing that anxiety and give you the tools and tactics to reframe the things that are causing you to drink in the first place.
Life is hard. Kids are hard. The US and UK seems especially hard at the moment. We’re still trying to come out of a pandemic. I get it, life is a LOT. But do I want to escape it? No. I want to live in it and be present in every moment. I don’t consider my unmanageable and overwhelming anymore.
And if you’re thinking to yourself right now- “Christy, I do NOT want to be present, I really do want to escape.” Then I hate to break it to you my friend, you’re only going to make things harder on yourself by drinking through life’s curveballs. I’m telling you, when I quit drinking- pretty much everything in my life became manageable.
When you remove alcohol you get to choose how you want to heal, how you want to solve problems, how you want to learn and grow in order to create a big, beautiful, purpose-filled life. That’s what this whole sobriety thing is all about.
Is it time to start building a life you don’t want to escape from?
