Think age is just a number? Your hangovers beg to differ.

Here are 5 reasons your hangovers are worse with age.

Struggling with hangovers more than you used to?  You’re not alone! Here’s why women’s alcohol tolerance decreases as they age:

1. Liver Functionality: Our liver’s efficiency in processing toxins diminishes as we age. For women who’ve had years of alcohol consumption, the liver might be even less capable. This means alcohol stays in your system longer, intensifying its effects.

2. Hormonal Changes: Hormones like estrogen can influence how we metabolize alcohol. During menopause, these levels fluctuate, affecting the body’s ability to break down alcohol efficiently.

3. Metabolism: We don’t metabolize alcohol the same way as we get older. A slower metabolism means your body takes longer to eliminate alcohol from your bloodstream.

4. Lower Muscle Mass: Muscle helps to burn alcohol more effectively than fat. As we age, we lose muscle mass, thus affecting how quickly we process alcohol.

5. Hydration: Older adults have a lower volume of water in their bodies, making it easier to become dehydrated. Alcohol exacerbates this, which can lead to worse hangovers.

Knowledge is power, babe. Tolerance only goes one way when we are continually drinking. We have to drink more, but we feel less effects, but it’s becoming harder and harder on our bodies. Have you noticed your hangovers have gotten worse with age?
